New York Fashion Week 2022

For each day of fashion week, I wrote about each of the most iconic shows and a bit of what I saw in them. This means trend predictions on color, silhouettes, and more. Read more to find out just what I saw.

There are many reasons I love fall, specifically September. Not only is it my birthday on the 8th but the next day, September 9th, is the first day of New York fashion week. Each year I get the joy of celebrating a new year, and designers new collections. This year some fashion milestones were hit as well such as Fendi celebrating 25 years of the Baguette bag. For these reasons I just HAD to talk about my absolute favorite New York Fashion Week moments.

On the first day of New York fashion week we got to see so much from Fendi as it was the 25th anniversary of their most iconic bag, The Baguette bag. In this show we saw a lot more than your regular collection, and there was a good reasoning for that according to The official Fendi account where I found this quote “ ‘I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary, rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous” shared Artistic Director of Womenswear Kim Jones ahead of last night’s unforgettable show. This show was artistic, the runway was large and had many different sharp turns. The models glided from each angle and square of the runway with grace and attitude, while giving the attire life. This collaboration with Marc Jacobs, part of it included many common things in Marc Jacobs collections such as large fur hats, monograms, platforms, and more. I loved everything about this show down to the collection, trends, and excitation which is why it is apart of my favorites of fashion week.

On the second day of fashion week I was in awe of Sergio Hudson’s spring show. I think that the colors used in the collection, along with many of the other color schemes seen in fashion week are very pleasing to the eye. As seen in the collection there was a lot of this green or chartreuse, along with electric blues and a pumpkin shade of orange. Along with this I saw many dresses and blazers, which makes me think of a more fashionable business kind of look in which I have been seeing a lot of. Based on the patterns I am seeing within the past two days of fashion week I think we will be seeing many of these colors coming into our wardrobes along with seeing more and more of these business type silhouettes.

The third day, was going to be show stopping rain or shine, and this time it was rain. The Tommy Hilfigure Show was held in the rain, creating a dramatically artistic, dramatic ambience. Models like Ashley Graham, Julia Fox, Amelia Gray Hamlin, and Lila Moss strutted the runway in this school girl/ Andy Warhol inspired attire. Many primary colors and many layered clothes , making each piece more and more visually pleasing. As well as having the bold colors on the runway, there was also a new monogram design used in the new collection. The patterns used in this collection leads me back to thinking we will be seeing more aesthetics like grunge, school girl, and business casual come up. Alone with this we will continue to step out of this “clean girl” or “neutrals” look and bring more bold outfits to the light.

The first ever Vogue World 9/12/22 , a moment to remember as they celebrated 130 years of Vogue. Out of all the shows during fashion week, this was my all time favorite. It was not like your normal fashion week show. There were no serious faces strutting the runway, they were smiles and laughter. Along with this there were many shows entwined… Lil Nas x preformed, they were dancers, and the models made the show their own by doing their own dancing and fun moments. Many iconic models walked along as well and if you missed this show I highly suggest watching it on The Vogue website or view some clips on the Vouge or Khaurafab Instagram. It was a show to remember and I hope that Vouge World continues for years to come.

Mirror Palais recently gained some traction on tiktok in the beginning of summer due to their beautiful Spanish-esque aesthetic. The brand has since become an aesthetic and something every one wanted to obtain summer 2022. So it is no surprise to me that they absolutely killed their first fashion week show. It was held in a church, which some would feel is controversial, but I think is artistic. The clothing was very fitting to this Spanish aesthetic and it set a tone for the show. Dreamy, artistic, detailed, gracious, are only a few words I can use to describe the show and the collection it features.

The 80s are BACK with this new Tom Ford show. Models owned the runway with big hair, big earrings, and sequins. This show made Fashion week come to an end in the best way. Something else I love about this show was the way the models slowly and dramatically walked down the runway in their 80s glam. I truly think that it was one of the best ways to start wrapping up fashion week.
